Wheels
We offer several after-market wheel options, from steel wheels to stylish alloys and from budget-friendly to premium custom options, including race wheels and custom three-piece wheels.
Alignments
Unlike many tire shops, we perform alignments regularly and have qualified technicians to align your vehicle. Our technicians know not only how to align your vehicle within the manufacturer’s spec, but also how to align lowered or lifted vehicles. We recommend aligning your vehicle when you notice abnormal tire wear and every time you buy new tires. If you want to be proactive, we recommend aligning your vehicle annually for the best tire wear and handling.
Alignment Check
If you’re unsure of your alignment, or have concerns of a poor wheel alignment, we offer an express alignment check, that can quickly check tire wearing characteristics including toe and camber. An alignment check does not check your caster, which is a non-tire wearing specification.
Mechanical Inspections
We are a fully licensed automotive mechanic with licensed technicians who are appropriately trained to perform a comprehensive vehicle inspection, identifying any potential areas of concern with your steering and suspension, which may result in premature tire wear or poor vehicle handling.
If you can’t operate without your vehicle, we have also negotiated rates with local Calgary rental car agencies to keep you on the move even if your vehicle is out of service.
Financing
We offer several 3rd party financing options that can help you finance your purchase of new wheels and tires.
Frequently Asked Questions
When should I replace my tires?
Tires should be replaced after 5-6 years or when the tread depth reaches 3/32nds for summer tires and 5/32nds for winter tires. The legal minimum tread depth in Alberta is 2/32nds. As tires age, the rubber becomes stiffer, and performance typically starts to drop off after 4-5 years. Tires over 10 years old are no longer considered fit for service and are recommended for replacement. There is no legal maximum age for tires in Alberta.
Should I replace all four tires at once?
Ideally, replacing all tires at once is always best, as it provides consistent handling characteristics. If you must change out less than four tires, we recommend replacing tires in pairs with the newer tires installed on the rear. If you choose only to replace one tire, it should be within 2/32nds of the other tires, or it may result in unsafe handling characteristics or additional driveline wear
How often should I rotate my tires?
Most tire warranties require tire rotation at least every 10,000 km. We recommend rotating your tires, every other oil change, or every 16,000 km, along with a mechanical inspection.
How long do tires usually last?
Typically, it lasts between 60,000 – 120,000 km, but it can vary based on the type of tires and the use. Winter tires usually don’t last as long as summer tires, and tires will wear quicker if carrying heavier loads, such as whilst pulling a trailer.
Do I need to perform an alignment when I buy new tires?
You don’t have to perform an alignment, but it is highly recommended. A poor alignment can ruin tires in a few hundred kms. An alignment is cheaper than the cost of new tires, and we recommend an alignment with every set of new tires.
Should my tires be balanced?
If you feel a vibration linked to your speed, and sometimes it comes and goes, it’s not a bad idea to start with a tire balance. As tires wear, they can go out of balance, particularly if you have uneven tire wear.
What should my tire pressures be?
Tire pressures should be set according to the sticker in the driver’s side door that sets out the manufacturer’s recommended tire pressures.
What is TPMS?
TPMS stands for “Tire Pressure Monitoring System.” This system monitors the tire pressures and alerts the driver of low or high tire pressures.
Does Weather Effect Tire Pressures?
Cold weather causes tire pressures to drop beyond a safe level and may trigger your TPMS light if equipped. Alternatively, when temperatures rise in the summer, tires may become overinflated, leading to poor traction and handling and uneven tire wear. We recommend checking tire pressures every significant temperature swing or monthly if your vehicle is not equipped with TPMS.
Should I change the tire sizing?
We don’t recommend changing the overall outer diameter or width of the tire. However, it may be beneficial to change the wheel size to accommodate winter tires or save some money on tires. Having said that) there are multiple factors to consider when changing wheel sizes, and we are happy to discuss them with you when you want to change tire sizes.
What tire size is recommended for my vehicle?
Your recommended tire size is included on a sticker inside your driver’s door opening. We recommend sticking with the manufacturer-recommended tire size.
When should I change my tires?
Summer tires should be changed at 3/32nds, and winter tires should be changed at 5/32ds. The minimum legal tread depth in Alberta is 1.6mm or about 2/32nds. Some provinces, including BC, have minimum winter tread depths. In BC, the minimum winter tire tread depth is 3.5mm or just over 4/32nds.
Are winter tires necessary?
Yes. Over 50% of the population of Alberta now has winter tires, so by not having winter tires, you are putting yourself at a traction disadvantage to other drivers. It only takes one accident to offset the additional cost of winter tires.
Do I need to retorque my wheels after a tire service?
Wheels should always be retorqued 50km -150km after a service where your wheels have been removed. Although we retorque wheels a second time when we remove them for service, if there is any dirt, corrosion or debris on the wheel mounting surface, this can come free and result in the lug nuts loosening off.
